10k authors (like Kazuo Ishiguro and Philippa Gregory, for example) have released an “empty” book to stand against AI firms using their work without asking first. No text. Just white pages. Claim? The AI industry was “built on stolen work taken without permission or payment”
Bold. Predictable. Beautifully theatrical. But totally useless act
Reminds me of the late 1990s when site owners (me included) begged Internet providers to share some revenue they got when selling access to our sites. Then, in the 2000s, we asked Google and Yandex to share their ad revenue related to our content. They all told us to go fuck ourselves. Yes, directly
YouTube started paying creators some tiny coins in 2008. However, still not proportionate to the buffet they’d built on our plates
But hey, empty books are dramatic! Drama moves markets…
