• Dramatic drop in traditional search engine volume (25% by 2026, Gartner says). People switch to ChatGPT/Claude/Perplexity etc. The next audience is bots, not humans

• Marketplaces spent zillions on TV to be “top of mind,” and they don’t depend on Google now. But bots haven’t watched those TV commercials! This investment from the past doesn’t work anymore

• SEO, AEO, GEO, question-based keyword research, logical heading structures, and so on are needed to maintain visibility in the AI era, not TV ads. Can you change the structure of a 20-year-old website? (ha-ha)

• Marketplaces charge to be on top because humans don’t scroll. But bots scrape everything. The current business model is becoming outdated at a pace similar to the rising traffic of ChatGPT & Co (2-4% monthly, Similarweb)

So, the next fun questions:

  • Can the marketplaces adapt at such a fast pace? (nope, elephants can’t jump)
  • Does it smell like an opportunity for your next startup? (you answer)

That's true. I prefer to use chatgpt to search items on amazon, coz it skips all the "sponsored" ones. And the search algo is more relevant to my needs that the one used on amazon
