Geoffrey Hinton, one of the AI pioneers who recently proposed Universal Basic Income for all replaced by AI related post, had another idea, which I really love: EMERGENCE
It explains how a simple system can unexpectedly create something more complex and different. A drop of water is innocent, but many drops can form a deadly tsunami. AI researchers have been trying to predict the next word, but they discovered ChatGPT. A zillion little stupid vectors suddenly turned into an intelligent monster. And we still don’t get whether this creature is good or bad
In my universe, EMERGENCE is about the UNPREDICTABILITY of the new [weird] abilities of platforms like Anthropic or OpenAI. Thus, it’s our personal [developer] responsibility [not] to spread this UNPREDICTABILITY when creating our AI products on these platforms
All AI startups deal with EMERGENCE, even if they don't know this concept
